the nimmer family | chappaqua, NY

on a beautiful autumn day, i met martha, jacob, ella, rebecca + benjamin in their lovely home. i learned that their home was washington’s headquarters in 1776. the colonial history was apparent throughout the home.

each corner whispered of countless important moments in out country’s history. those whispers were paired with the sounds of barefoot running across the 300 year old wood floors.

the girls ran around and showed me how they can climb the doorways (against martha’s wishes). they showed me which twin can cartwheel and which can jump higher. they showed me their favorite way to get to the front of the house — through the fence with the missing post, which they assured me they didn’t break on purpose. they showed me how well they can hold their new brother benjamin and their favorite toys to play with.

there is something underrated and wonderfully magical about in-home photoshoots. posing for photos can be uncomfortable for many and with children, it can be stressful and overwhelming. being in your own space can add a layer of comfort that can change your whole experience and make it all the better.

capturing the magical mundane moments are my absolute favorites. they are often the most easily forgotten and often the most meaningful.
