glenda, sofía + ron | family
glenda first reached out to me in the summer of 2020 when i first started taking clients. i met her two children, ron and sofía as ron turned 3 and sofía was only 6 months.
flash forward a year and a half. we had our second photoshoot during the summer of 2021 at the beach and in the fall of 2021, for our third photoshoot together, glenda wanted to celebrate the fall season with her two children. ron now past four years old and sofía turning two shortly. watching them, and many other clients, grow up, and celebrate different life events, has been an unexpected joy of my job.
as time goes on, photography seems to continue becoming less of a “job” and more of a documentation of the relationships and friendships i have with each of my clients.
on this chilly fall day, i met glenda and her family in hempstead, long island and we spent the afternoon throwing leaves, frolicking in the park and ignoring responsibilities.
there is a certain joy about photographing children because you can’t just photograph them. if you want them to truly be themselves, you have to play their game. what kid wants to stand still for some random stranger? so instead, we have fun together. i take photos with one hand and throw leaves at ron with the other. i play the floor is lava with ron while playing tag with sofía while simultaneously taking photos.
we stand on the picnic tables and roll in the leaves. we throw rocks and talk about the stars in the sky and the fish in the sea. to get your family as authentic as possible, i don’t stand disconnected from you. as a result of this involvement, i can capture how your family acts on a crazy sunday morning.
