yamaris, dylan + valencia | mother’s day mini session
yamaris, or @sweetsolphoto on instagram, reached out to me for a mother’s day session but only wanted it to be 15 minutes. she explained that she has two children, valencia who is 4 and dylan who is 6 with autism and adhd. therefore, 15 minutes was the only length of time that would work for the three of them. so we set a date for our 15 minute outdoor adventure.
once we met, i explained that i will follow the kids’ lead. they will be kids and do their own thing, even if you try to fight them, so let’s not try. let’s let them do their thing. so if they want to go find the biggest stick, jump in the biggest puddle, climb the biggest tree, that’s what we will spend our time doing.
dylan loved the big trees on the property so that was our task. the four of us ran around, played chase, looked for big trees and big shadows and spun in our pretty pretty outfits.
even if you feel like your kids can’t handle being in a photoshoot, i know they definitely can. instead of looking at a photoshoot under the lens of forcing them to do things they don’t want to do, think of it as me acting as your personal paparazzi on your casual family outing.
let’s create something that works for you and your family. if going out with your children and making sure everyone is dressed and presentable seems incredibly overwhelming, then let’s not do that! we can be in your home. i can document bath-time, if the kids want to build forts in their mis-matching pjs we can do that. the goal of a photoshoot with your family is not to create moments that wouldn’t happen naturally. the goal is for me to capture the moments that are already happening (and if i have to facilitate a few smiles, i have a few tricks).
